GOLOK Overview
The GOLOK machete combines the power of an axe with the speed of a machete. Its 5 mm thick blade, crafted from 66Mn4 high-carbon steel (55 HRC), guarantees durability under heavy impact loads — from clearing undergrowth to felling small trees. The textured ABS plastic handle provides a secure grip in any weather conditions. Comes with a MOLLE-compatible nylon sheath.

Unlike classic machetes designed to clear thin, flexible jungle vines, the GOLOK by Blade Brothers Knives is built for hardwood and harsh field conditions. It is a high-impact chopping tool. We’ve adapted the traditional golok geometry to meet the specific demands of Ukrainian military operations and the dense treelines of our landscape.

| Feature / Element | Description and Functional Benefits |
|---|---|
| Construction & Steel | Full-tang knife ensures maximum reliability during the heaviest chopping strokes. The blade and handle are a single piece of 66Mn4 high-carbon steel (5 mm). The steel's high impact toughness perfectly absorbs shock and withstands extreme loads. Hardened to an optimal 55 HRC. The blade retains its edge while remaining easy to sharpen in the field using a basic whetstone, file, or even a flat stone. |
| Anti-Corrosion Coating | Polymer Layer. Since high-carbon steel is prone to oxidation, we protected the blade with a specialized heavy-duty coating. |
| Blade Geometry | The absence of a sharp tip allows the blade’s end to be used as a makeshift shovel. The weight-forward balance delivers powerful strikes with minimal swing. Functional zones: The tip area is ideal for debarking; the mid-section is optimized for chopping; the area near the handle is for precision cutting. |
| Wide Bevels | Wide bevels provide a shallow entry angle, ensuring maximum "bite" into the material. The blade's geometry efficiently cleaves wood fibers, making every stroke highly effective. |
| Handle | The ergonomic shape is designed for prolonged chopping, minimizing vibrations. Textured ABS plastic scales ensure a secure grip even in wet conditions. The bolt-on assembly allows for manual tightening if needed. Includes a lanyard hole. |
| Sheath | Durable nylon with MOLLE interface, compatible with any tactical gear. The machete fits securely, protected against accidental loss during movement. |

The inspiration for the GOLOK machete came from a conversation with a fellow Marine. He suggested we focus on the golok’s unique geometry. Also, he noted that British Special Forces once officially adopted it. This sparked our interest in creating a tool that met those elite standards for performance and reliability.

We have a deep expertise in knives — we know their history, we teach knife fighting, and we manufacture them. While outdoor tools like machetes or axes were previously outside our professional focus, the challenge of adapting the golok was too intriguing to pass up.
The golok is a traditional Indonesian blade used as both a farming tool and a weapon. Throughout history, the British Army has periodically adopted effective Eastern military designs — the kukri machete being a prime example. Consequently, the golok served as a standard-issue cleaver for British forces from the 1950s through the 1990s.

Design-wise, the golok is a heavy, single-beveled cleaver. It’s shorter and more substantial than a standard machete, with a distinct weight-forward balance. By shifting the center of gravity toward the tip, we’ve maximized its chopping power for every stroke.

This weight-forward balance delivers an incredibly powerful chopping stroke. While the swing might feel slightly slower, the sheer momentum and force of impact compensate for everything — the tool literally cleaves through wood of any density.
Knives with a rich history have always commanded our deepest respect, which is why we were so inspired to create our own take on the classic golok.

66Mn4 steel is all about raw power and an "aggressive" bite. It sinks into wood far better than any stainless steel, but it demands proper maintenance.
